Living in Sheffield
Sheffield is bustling city and a great place to be. It boasts a large student presence thanks to the two universities: Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam.
Sheffield offers a popular city centre with excellent shopping facilities including the main two shopping areas, Fargate and The Moor, which are both packed with a wide range of shops and facilities. It’s also within easy reach of Meadowhall, an enormous indoor shopping mall, which makes a perfect day trip. There are lots of takeaways and restaurants for when you need a break!
In regards to nightlife Sheffield is full of places to go. To start off the night there are a variety of bars on West Street (The Cavendish, Varsity and Walkabout to name a few…) and for later on Sheffield has plenty of clubs to offer from Dance/Indie at Embrace to Rock/Metal at Corporation, you’ll be spoilt for choice! There are several venues to see your favourite live bands or discover someone new including the Motorpoint Arena and 02 Academy.
For football lovers Sheffield is home to Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. Other sports fans can enjoy EIS Sheffield for a range of sporting events and the Motorpoint Arena for Sheffield Steelers ice hockey games, you can also improve your own ice skating skills at IceSheffield! What’s more Sheffield has a large number of museums, art galleries, theatres and casinos so you’ll never be stuck for something to do!
Along with all these activities Sheffield has a great transport system to get you from place to place. The bus and tram system is easy to hop on for local trips and the large train station can get you to London in 2 hours as well as being within a short ride away from Manchester, Leeds or Nottingham.
For a countryside feel Sheffield has an abundance of parks and is proud to be a Green city. It’s home to the Winter Gardens, a large glass house with a spectacular range of plants and is also just a bus ride away from the stunning Peak District meaning you can balance a busy city life with the calming outdoors.
